Texas Bluebonnets 2009

It is bluebonnet time in Texas and we have a tradition of going bluebonnet hunting in April with our friends. Long ago, Michele Heileman and I took our little people (in 1 car!) when they were in elementary school. Now that our kids have their own little people we have kept going and it is still lots of fun. We picnic and play and climb trees and take photos in the fields of flowers. This year we had a big group in 4 cars and we went to Brenham and Independence - it was a perfectly gorgeous day!

The grandmommies: Trish, Michele, Mary Anne and Susan, who have been friends for over 25 years!

ALL the kids climbed trees.

Fireman's Park in Brenham was a nice place to picnic and play. Michele and I had not been there for at least 20 years. It is much improved.

HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY TO CONNER

Last sunday we celebrated Conner's 11th birthday at the local bowling alley with his friends and family.

Conner has been sharing birthdays with this wonderful group of friends all his life.

Thank you Mark, Marty Anne, Marian, Aidan, Brennan, Rachel, Jake, Noah and Addison for joining in on this fun day!

A new generation of bowlers was born, great job Addison, Noah and Brennan!

Never too old for Spring Break

Last week we took a short road trip with our friends Ed and Susan Stock and John and Mary Anne Schmid up to the hill country for a few nights. We stayed in Wimberley at the High Point Manor Inn and explored the area around San Marcos, Gruene and Wimberley.
I wanted to bring home theses cute baby goats for the grandkids but was overruled.

My nemesis...... every morning the dozens of real roosters crowed from 3 a.m. until about noon. John and I were in the Rooster Pen Suite.

One day we drove over to the Mandola Winery and tasted a few wines and enjoyed the beautiful location. Patrick and Morgan met us after work to have dinner at the delicious Trattoria Lisina

On wednesday we spent the afternoon in Gruene and had dinner at the Gristmill. That night we enjoyed listening to a little local music from the Texas Renegades at historic Gruene Hall. Great fun and friendship!

GO AEROS!

Last saturday night we took Conner to the Houston Aeros game and had loads of fun! The games are very entertaining and the Aeros won in a very CLOSE game against the Chicago Wolves 3 to 1.
We were surprised when a really nice lady came through our section and gave some of the kids autographed pucks. Later she invited Conner to come down to the locker room area after the game and have his picture taken with the Aero #3, Paul Albers, who autographed his puck! At first Conner did not want to go because he thought he would have to walk on the ice. After we cleared that up he was good to go.
Thanks to Rev. Stephanie Linscott for this great experience!

bugs, slugs and grubs

Today was the NatureFest at Jesse Jones Park and so we walked around the park for a while with Conner. He took most of the photos today. He loves animals and photography. He and John fished and did a few games about animal tracks and prints. There were dragon lizards, blue tongued skinks, king snakes, pythons, puppies and even a possum named Jack!
